Boys take district title

Girls only loss makes for a short postseason

By Jeff Waters, Democrat Reporter

It was the goal they set in the beginning. The Suwannee boys soccer team walked away with the District 5-3A title Friday night at Paul Langford stadium. They beat Newberry 5-0 for the title.

“The kids worked hard all year long,” said coach Archie Cook. “I’m proud of what they have done.”

Austin O’Connor made three goals in the first half with two assists from Stuart Brown and one from Tripp Prevatt. In the second half Jackson Brown, assisted by Stuart Brown and Prevatt, assisted by O’Connor, made the final two goals of the night.

While the boys look forward to hosting Thursday’s Region 2-3A quarterfinal against Crystal River, the girls’ season ended abruptly, but not without excitement. The girls went into overtime Thursday, about 90 minutes’ worth, to have Crystal River snatch away their undefeated record in their Region 2-3A quarterfinal. The score was 1-0.

The boys record now stands 17-3-1, the girls end 16-1-2.
