WINDOW SMASHED, NARCOTICS STOLEN AT MAYO PHARMACY

By Barbara Gill, Reporter

MAYO - A thief – or thieves – in search of drugs smashed the front window of North Florida Pharmacy in Mayo with a floor jack early Tuesday and made off with narcotics from the store safe, Lafayette County sheriff’s reports show.

Deputy C.M. Keen responded to an alarm at the pharmacy at 1:20 a.m., reports indicate. He arrived at 1:23 and found a ratchet wrench and a screwdriver outside the building. In his report, Keen said it appeared the perpetrator(s) had used the tools in an to attempt to gain entry. After that failed, a red floor jack was apparently thrown through the front window.

It appeared that filled prescriptions and shelved medications were left untouched, say reports.

It is not clear how the thief was able to gain access to the safe.

The investigation is ongoing, say authorities.

Anyone with information related to this or other crimes is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 386-294-1222.
