Tallahassee woman dies in I-10 crash

By Vanessa Fultz, Democrat Reporter

A wreck on Interstate 10 proved fatal for one Tallahassee resident over the weekend. Nina L. Gilbert, 21, of Tallahassee, was killed on Sunday after the car in which she was a passenger flipped.

Camela Blanca Griffin, 19, Lakeland, was driving a Dodge X-Caliber heading westbound on I-10 in the outside lane when the vehicle drifted across the inside lane and traveled off the roadway onto the median, said FHP. When the driver tried to bring the vehicle back onto the road, she overcorrected, causing the vehicle to rotate and overturn several times. During the roll-overs the vehicle's three passengers -- Gilbert, Latoya Denan Barnes, 21, Alexandria, Va.; and Julie Nguyen, 20, Tallahassee -- were ejected from the vehicle.

Griffin and Barnes sustained minor injuries and were taken to Shands Live Oak. Nguyen sustained serious injuries and she was taken to Shands UF.

The three passengers who were thrown from the vehicle were not wearing seat belts, say reports.

Gilbert was a student at FAMU.
