Randy Hatch, Suwannee County commissioner for District 5, was installed as the president of the Florida Association of Counties during the Association's 79th annual conference last month in Miami.

"I am pleased to serve this organization which represents the fabric of our state," said Hatch. "This next year I am committed to restoring the partnership between state and local governments to work together for the betterment of Florida's citizens."

"Commissioner Hatch is an exemplary public servant," said FAC Executive Director Chris Holley, a former Suwannee County coordinator. "His commitment to restoring the relationship between state and local governments is just what our association and Florida needs."

Hatch said he will use the position as FAC president to "push policy and direct legislation that will benefit us back home." His efforts to influence policy will focus on the protection of our water resources and the preservation of local decision-making and the local tax base.

Hatch was elected by his peers across Florida to serve as president of the Association, the mission of which is to increase the capacity of Florida counties to effectively serve the citizens of the state through legislative action, education of public officials and enhancement of public awareness about the role and functions of county government.

Hatch became a member of FAC eight years ago. He has served on numerous committees and in leadership positions with the organization.

Founded in 1929, the Florida Association of Counties is a non-profit association representing the diverse interests of Florida's 67 counties.
