Dean seeks Senate water hearing in Suwannee

Staff

State Sen. Charlie Dean (R-Inverness) Tuesday asked the Florida Senate to hold three public hearings on water policy in District 3, which includes Suwannee County.

Dean, in a letter to Sen. Lee Constantine, chairman of the Senate's Select Committee on Florida's Inland Waters, requested the individual public hearings to be held in Citrus, Marion and Suwannee counties. Dean requested the meetings as Senate District 3 is home to more first magnitude springs than any other state Senate District.

"The issues surrounding our inland waters is one of the most important policy matters to me and the constituents which I serve," wrote Dean. "Additionally, Senate District 3 is home to a rich and diverse agrarian economy. It is because of this I am requesting three public hearings within my district. These communities have a long and distinct history of water protection and preservation and deserve to be heard."

According to a press release from Dean's office, it is anticipated that the Select Committee on Florida's Inland Waters will be traveling in the upcoming months to hold public hearings in several different areas of the state. The committee is currently considering these potential weeks to hold the hearings: December 14-18, January 5-8 and January 25-29.
