A pioneer of modern day Branford, Leon Dupree Hatch Sr., passed away Saturday at the age of 86 after a lengthy illness. Hatch was a farmer and businessman who dedicated his life to serving the Branford community through civic organizations, community activities and charitable contributions. He and his brother Rudolph were recipients of the Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce Trailblazer award in 2004. Hatch also served in WWII where he participated in 29 combat missions over Germany as a crew member on a B-17 Flying Fortress.
Hatch is remembered as a man who lived simply and gave from the heart. He loved the wide-open spaces and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Hatch was a true gentleman who valued dedication to God, country and family. He will forever be remembered for his generosity and service.
