SCHOOLS: Lafayette 4th-graders lead state in FCAT math

By Stephenie Livingston

Lafayette County fourth-graders led the state in math on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, with 86 percent scoring at grade level or above, an 8 percent increase over last year. In reading, 82 percent of local fourth graders performed at grade level or better, compared to 81 percent in 2008. The 2009 state reading average for fourth graders is 74 percent, and the state math average is 75 percent. A score of 3 or higher on the test indicates performance at grade level.

As for raw scores, the average Lafayette County fourth grader scored 325 in reading and 334 in Math in 2009. The 2009 state average was 324 in reading and 330 in math.

Results were mixed for other grades. See more later on this site and in Thursday's print edition of the Mayo Free Press.
